This time last year, I walked into our first writers group meeting of 2012 and declared, rather boldly that this was the year that we'd all get published. Most people were still settling down, exchanging hugs and opening laptops, so there wasn't a massive response, but I decided that it wouldn't be that cool to leave the room, burst back in and shout even louder, so I nodded emphatically round the table (rather like Kermit the Frog when he's excited) and insisted that we would ALL get published in 2012. Why? Because I just knew it! In my heart/gut/water (eww) etc. Now - I may have still been tottering around in a post-Christmas sugar haze, but I have to say, it felt good to verbalise what I really really hoped would happen.
And guess what? It did happen! Victoria Point Writers Group e-published Ten Minute Tales on Smashwords! And our anthology has been donloaded 118 times, which may not sound a lot, but I tell you - we're stoked! It's done and we did it!
On my personal writing journey in 2012, I had a couple of short stories published online AND in hard copy, entered the odd competition, sat on an author panel (highlight!) and generally had a ball with my writing shenanigans. The biggest achievement for me though, was completing my novel and sending it off to a digital publisher, who - utter delight - DIDN'T say 'Get lost, it's a pathetic waste of our time,' but instead gave me some savvy editing advice and as we speak, they are taking another look at the manuscript.
So who knows what 2013 will bring. I'm gearing up to shout out my goals and I know what my number one focus will be. My novel WILL be published! There. I've said it. And now I know it's going to happen.....!
